LGHS Swim & Dive Team Update: Week 1
Hello Swimming and Diving Families!
Our season begins tomorrow! There is a LOT of information below. Please read the information carefully, even if you think it does not pertain to you or your athlete.
Athletic Clearance
All athletes must complete the athletic clearance process. Visit losgatosathletics.org to begin the registration process. You MUST be cleared by our athletic director (including submitting a physical completed by your doctor within the last year and completing heart screening by March) in order to participate. Fall and/or Winter athletes: visit the athletic clearance website and add Swimming and Diving as an additional sport. Everyone: check the list of students who have been fully cleared below, noting that several students have started the process but are NOT yet cleared to swim. Our Athletic Director will be checking all documentation submitted over the weekend and through Monday. Upon approval you will receive notification that you have been cleared via email.
If you have additional questions, please contact Ken Perrotti.
Athlete Information Form
As of Sunday afternoon only about 1/4 of the athletes have completed this form. This form MUST be completed in order to begin practice with the team: Swimmer/Diver Information Form
Swim Coach-Athlete Communications
We will use the Remind text messaging service to communicate timely information to ATHLETES ONLY. Athletes: please send a text message to the number 81010 and write @lgswim26 in the message of the text (including the @ symbol).
Team Website and Parent Communications
We use our LGHS Swimming & Diving website to manage communications and provide a single location for all things swimming, including the calendar for meets, practices, and other events, and sign-ups for volunteering (mandatory). Note: parents and athletes must login to our website to sign-up for events. For information on how to log in to your account, see the Swimtopia Website Access pdf, noting that NEW athletes/parents may not have access until later this week. If you have issues logging in, first try selecting “Forgot my password?” If you still have issues, email Coach Sullivan [email protected] for assistance.
First Day of Practice- Swim
The varsity team consists of all seniors, all returning varsity swimmers, as well as JV and new swimmers who have consulted with Coach Kroesche or Coach Bruno. If you think you want to be on varsity but have not spoken with the coaches, meet at the pool at 2:35 to speak with them. Varsity will meet at 2:45 pm at the pool for a brief meeting followed by a team building exercise. We expect 100% turnout of all Varsity for this Monday meeting and team building. Please arrive at the pool deck with appropriate shoes and clothing for a hike.
JV athletes will meet at 4:00 pm on the bleachers for a brief meeting, then all athletes will get in the water. The coaches will begin to assess where you are at, your abilities, and conditioning. Don’t forget that anyone with longer hair will need a cap (we will have some on the pool deck for purchase. Cash or check made out to LGHS. $5 Latex/$15 Silicone) and everyone needs goggles. Although you may be accustomed to swimming without either of these items for short periods of time or for water polo, they are essential pieces of equipment for competitive swimming.
First Day of Practice- Dive
Divers will meet at the pool at 2:30. If you have questions please contact Coach Mike or Coach Karla.
Focus Group Practice
Coach Jim will be working with smaller groups to focus on specific skills and strokes in a small group setting. These practices run from 2:30-4:00 pm on Black days. Athletes may sign up in advance (but no later than noon on the day of the practice) at the link below.
This week we have only one focus practice.
- Wednesday 2/4/26 2:30-4:00 pm -- Middle Distance: Stroke Count
Please come with your measurements so we can determine your target stroke counts.
- Height (in inches)
- Wingspan (in inches) [Distance between horizontally outstretched arms]
Suits, Caps, and Parkas
Team suits are not required, but highly recommended. If you do not wear a team suit for competition, you must wear a plain suit with no logos nor other team’s names. For practice you may wear any appropriate training suit. The team suit fit kits will be available Tuesday- Friday before practice only (must be tried on OVER your current suit while you are dry). If you do not try on a suit and order the wrong size there are no refunds or exchanges.
It is recommended that all swimmers (male and female) wear a team cap for competition. If you do not wear a team cap, you must wear a plain cap with minimal logos (usually just the brand logo is acceptable). You may read about the difference between silicone and latex caps here.
Parka orders will be placed next week but they usually take 6 weeks for delivery. Keep in mind that water polo does not order parkas, so if you want one for water polo season, you should order it now.
Ordering will be active from Tuesday, February 3rd at 6 pm to Tuesday Februay 10th at 9 amthrough the ASB Swimming Store (look for swim store under categories). If you do not place your order during this time you will NOT get a suit or parka. No exceptions. The items and prices (before ASB store fees) can be found here.
Winter Sport Athletes
Please notify Coach Peters at [email protected] if you are currently on a winter sports team at LGHS so we know you will not be joining us until after February Break.
Parent Support & Volunteering
ALL PARENTS are required to sign up to volunteer at meets (at least two) AND donate to either pasta feeds or meet snacks (at least two). Go to the Meets & Events page and when logged in, you will see green buttons for sign-ups. Alternatively, you may purchase a volunteer buyout of $75 and/or a donation buyout of $75 at the ASB Store.
In addition, we desperately need parents in key lead positions listed below. Sign-up here! If you have questions, contact Coach Sullivan: [email protected]
