LGHS Swim & Dive Team Update: Week 2

    Hello Swimming and Diving Families-

We had a great first week of practice! Thank you for all of your patience with the pool closures. Again, there is a lot of information, so please read the email below carefully and ask a coach if you are unsure of anything.

Last Call for Suits, Caps, and Parkas!

Monday before practice is the last opportunity for athletes to try on suits. Tuesday 9:00am is the deadline for ordering suits, parkas, and caps. Go to the ASB Swimming Store (look for swim store under categories) to order. If you do not place your order during this time you will NOT get a suit or parka. No exceptions. The items and prices (before ASB store fees) can be found here.

    Swimming Attendance and Missed Practices

We had a few bumps this week with scanning in for practice, but overall swimmers did a good job. Note that meet entry priorities are given to athletes who attend practice regularly and scan in for practice or inform coaches if they need to miss practice. If you are missing practice, will be late or need to leave early you need to communicate that with the coaches. Use the Missed Practice Form any time you need will not be at an entire practice.

Consequences will occur if you fail to scan in or inform a coach through the missed practice form as follows:

Number of Practices missed without filling out Missed Practice FormConsequence
    3Meeting with Athlete and Coach
5Meeting with Athlete, Coach and Parent
    6Dismissal from the team

    Winter Sport Athletes

Please notify Coach Peters at [email protected] if you are currently on a winter sports team at LGHS so we know you will not be joining us until after February Break.

    February Break Practice

It is expected that if you are in town and you are healthy you will be at practice! Swimming will tentatively workout from 10-noon (confirmation will happen later in the week). Divers are scheduled from 11-1 but should check in with Coach Karla depending on weather. If you are unable to attend practice you must fill out the missed practice form for EVERY DAY you will miss: Missed Practice Form

    Parent Volunteers Desperately Needed!

Thank you for the parents who have stepped up in supporting the team! We still need a lot more volunteers in key positions including:

    • Lead Volunteer Coordinator (currently being done by coaches but should be done by parents)
    • Meet Volunteer Coordinator (this is a non-negotiable position since we are obligated to hold meets)
    • Meet Snack Coordinator (or there will be no snacks at meets for athletes)
    • Pasta Feed Coordinator (or there will be no food at pasta feeds)
    • JV Pasta feed hosts (or there will be no JV pasta feeds)
    • Swim Meet Clock & Data Scorers (or swimmers will not have qualifying times at any home meets)
    • Banquet Coordinator (or there will be no banquet)
    • Senior Meet Volunteers (or our graduating seniors will not be honored)
    • Swim Meet Clock & Data Scorers "desk" (or swimmers will not have qualifying times at home meets)
    • Photographer (or no meet photos)

Part of what makes the team so special are the activities listed above. However, they are not required for us to be a swim team and will be eliminated if we cannot get parent volunteers. Please fill out the “Volunteer Sign-up Form” to do your part.

Reminder that ALL PARENTS are required to sign up to volunteer at meets (at least two) AND donate to either pasta feeds or meet snacks (at least two) if we end up having them. Go to the “Meets & Events page”, login, and click on the green “Job Signup'' buttons (you must be logged in to see the buttons). Alternatively, you may purchase a volunteer buyout of $75 and/or a donation buyout of $75 at the ASB Store.

    Swimming Focus Practices (optional)

Tuesday 2/10/26 2:30-4:00 pm -- Distance: Stroke Count

Please come with your measurements so we can determine your target stroke counts.

    1. Height (in inches)
    2. Wingspan (in inches) [Distance between horizontally outstretched arms]

    Thursday 2/12/26 2:30-4:00 pm -- Breast: Timing & Stroke

Remember to sign up no later than noon of the day of the practice: Focus Practice Sign-up Sheet

    Healthy Swimmers

One of the biggest challenges in swimming is staying healthy. Two areas of health seem to dominate in the first few weeks of the season. Shoulder maintenance and injury prevention will lead to a successful season! Please see “Shoulder Maintenance” for details on keeping your shoulders in good working condition.

Preventing Swimmer’s Ear is another key to a successful season for some athletes. An after-practice ear care routine is suggested to keep ears healthy. Additionally, ear plugs worn during practice to keep water out can be helpful for some athletes. Although this brand is not a swimming ear plug, they are highly recommended.

    Athlete-Coach Communication

We will use the Remind text messaging service to communicate timely information to ATHLETES ONLY. Please send a text message to the number 81010 and use the code below in the subject of the text (including the @ symbol): @lgswim26
