Week 6 Update- 3/8
Hello Swimming and Diving Families-
We are well into dual meet season and athletes are getting in a great rhythm of practice and meets. This week we have pasta feeds and the launch of our fundraiser, so please read the details below carefully and ask a coach if you have questions.
Gunn Meet Results
A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped make our first home meet a success! We appreciated everyone’s patience as we work through issues with our score board (repairs hopefully being made this week). Our athletes had a great meet with many personal records. Both girls teams won, and the boys teams swam well, but lost narrowly.
Varsity highlights include first place finishes Kiana Koechlin, Eddie Lasso, Maila Postek, Vera Meshcheryakova, Ellie Murnin, and Adrian Vierya. And, we had new personal records from Isabella Baldwin, Catie Chen, Kevin Yang, Brooke Cannan, Marina Jackson, Ben Borenstein, Kiana Koechlin, Aditi Anumala, Eddie Lasso, Zachary Kersten, Ben Nester, Danielle Doepke, Ethen Zhang, and Sean Yukler!
JV highlights include first place finishes from Ava Burnside, Maddox Greenstreet, Martha Kang, Ainsley Lang, Noah Margolis, Ellie Chang, and Eashen Venkat. And, we had new personal records from Maddox Greenstreet, Evie Lin, Ella Pool, Liam Tran, Martha Kang, Anna Sophia Djordjev, Sofya Kavalenka, Maristell Hiol, Xander Von Mott, Boaz Goldenthal, Michael Duan, Ellenore Hammer, Eashen Venkat, Molly DiSessa, Elisa Schapeler, and Jed Ameziane. Wow, what a meet! See the official times/scores below.
Monday Practice
Even though students do not have school we will still hold practice. Divers will practice from 11-1 and swimmers will keep their normal practice time. Additionally, there is a MANDATORY meeting at 3:45 pm. We need ALL swimmers to attend the meeting as we are kicking off our fundraiser (see below).
Orange-Black-Grey Fundraising Meet: Saturday, March 28th
We are excited to announce our 5th annual Orange-Black-Grey Fundraising Meet on Saturday, March 28th at noon. This is our only fundraiser with proceeds supporting the banquet, pasta feeds, etc. Note that this is separate from the participation donation that covers basic operating costs of athletics programs. We are also looking to raise funds for new lane lines for our team’s exclusive use. We will be partnering with Vertical Raise this year in hopes of doubling our fundraising efforts from last season. Vertical Raise is a safe and secure fundraising platform that has been approved by the school district. Information about the fundraiser can be found below, including opportunities for corporate/business sponsorships!
Swimming Pasta Feed- Thursday, March 12th
We are excited for our second pasta feed of the season! Thank you to the Kua family for hosting JV and the Lasso Family for hosting varsity. We are still in need of a parent helper for the Varsity event. Thank you to all of the families who are donating food or their time.
Home Swim and Dive Meet v. Los Altos- Friday, March 13th
Swimmers and divers should report to the pool after 5th period (students with 7th period are excused from class) to assist with set-up and begin warm-ups. We still need a few timing shifts covered. All swimmers that can not participate in the meet on MUST FILL OUT A MISSED PRACTICE FORM AND NOTIFY COACH PETERS (JV) or COACH BRUNO (VAR), no later than Tuesday, 3/10. If you notify us later than Tuesday that you can not participate then one of your teammates may not get to swim an event or relay that you have been seeded into. BE COURTEOUS TO YOUR TEAM AND COACHES. If you back out of the meet after Wednesday, 3/11 you will be asked to provide verification of your illness from a doctor. Additionally, it is expected that athletes will stay for the entire meet and not leave until the meet is over.
Team Suits
The girls suits have still not arrived and the boys suits that arrived were not the correct design (Coach Peters’ fault, not the vendor). The boys will receive both the suits that were shipped in error and the correct suits and may wear the wrong suit in competition until the correct ones arrive. Caps are also in and will be distributed at the meet.
Swim Team Merch
Our parka vendor has created a swim store for Cats branded items such as backpacks, towels, parkas, hats, etc. Go to the Making Waves Swim Merc Storeto make your selections. The store will close on Sunday, March 8 and items will be shipped directly to homes around March 21st. Merch that is specific to this season will also be available for purchase later in the season, so stay tuned.
Swimming Focus Practices
If you are not taking advantage of the swimming focus practices you are missing out! Many sprinters were observed at the meet with buried or too high of heads and/or wild breathing. When races are won by hundredths of a second, a simple fix can make the difference. The fly focus session is for athletes who want to improve their timing, not learn to swim fly.
Tues 3/10/26 2:30 - 4:00 pm -- Sprint: Head Position
Thur 3/12/26 2:30 - 4:00 pm -- Fly: Breathing & Kick
* * * * * * Remember to sign no later than noon of the day of the practice. * * * * *
Please remove your name from the sign-up list by noon the day of the practice if you are not going to attend. We have had far too many people sign up and not attend the Focus Practice.
See what your amazing athletes have been up to!
